After Fragonard

The Swing - Fragonard

I painted this because I wanted to strip Fragonard’s The Swing down to its purest elements—to erode the silk dress, the voyeurism, and the Rococo scandal until only atmosphere, motion, and color remained.

(Bud is always hanging when I am painting. He has become my Art Director and Manager)

Gut Feelings & Speed

My process starts digitally. The iPad gives me the freedom to catch quick, fleeting impulses and test colors without friction. It’s pure exploration until I hit the spark worth keeping.

Mixed Media Reality

When the digital sketch feels alive, I translate it into mixed media. Using rich pigments and dynamic physical texture, the piece grounds itself in the real world, carrying the initial mood into a permanent physical form

This piece demanded months of iteration and quiet wrestling in the studio. Looking at the depth of the final texture, I’m just deeply grateful I gave it the time it needed to become what it is.
